Omiyage bon

I bought an Omiyage bon (souvenir book) to help introduce Japanese culture in US. The content is about Japanese culture, regions or food or clothes or events in English. That's very interesting and I found many unknown things.
I didn't know the clear differences of Kabuki, Noh and Kyogen.
Kabuki is said to have organized in Kyoto with a woman named Okuni at the beginning of the seventeen century. The word kabuki came from kabuku which meant eccentric or original. Their feature is having a Japanese umbrella and making white face up.
Noh is the oldest existing form of professional thater in the world. The expression "like a noh mask", means a person who never shows their emotion. They perfome with wearing a mask.
Kyogen developed at the same time as noh and the two were often perfomed together. Kyogen actors always carry a fan on stage.
I've never seen these traditional perfomances so I wanna see someday. But I think it's kind of boring... It's silent and slow.
Well, it's the Japanese style.

Yesterday, I bought a device to start skype with my parents because we can communicate cheaply when I go to US. Do you know skype? Skype is like a communication tool for nothing! If I buy the device for about 1000 yen($9), I can communicate with worldwide people!! It's amazing, isn't it?
Immediately, I tried to do it and found an American who is studying Japanese. I talked with him for about three hours. This is a very good material for me instead of English conversation school!! So if you want to speak a language you're learning, I recommend you to try this :-)

Hi Erika,

It's good to prepare yourself about Japanese culture because many of your classmates in the U.S. will have lots of questions for you when you go there.

I also haven't seen Kabuki or Noh. I think that Noh masks are scary. I have watched a Rakugo performance in Philippines before and it was in English. I enjoyed it and really thought it was funny.

Yeah, I also think Noh is a little bit scary because the maskes are like Oni(demon). Rakugo is more casual and you don't have to be nearvous but other traditional perfomances like what I said are more formal.
Actually, I don't think Rakugo is funny... It's for older people so young people usually don't watch it. But I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed Rakugo!

Hi! I think this book would be very interesting!!

I have Skype, too. But I only use it for free PC-to-PC calls, not to landline- or mobile-phones. I tired it one time, cuz' I got 0.20€ (20min. calls) for free during a skype-voting.

Whats your screenname?
My ones:
MSN: son-goku22[-at-]arcor.de
SKYPE: fabi1611

Yeah, this book is very interesting so if you are itnerested in, please check it out!
I sent you a message through skype☆

I use Yahoo messenger, which is like Skype, but my brother uses Skype.

I don't know how to use yahoo messanger. If I have a chance to use it, I wanna use!

In fact, if the other person has Skype in his/her computer you don't need to pay.
I have Skype and I talked to Japanese people in Japan.

Yeah, I was surprised that we can communicate for nothing. Great technology!

ところで、my screenname is nacente

I tried Skype in the past but I decided not to use it anymore. There are a few flaws using Skype; the voice signal is not good, MSN voice chatting is far more better. Next, I found it rather expensive to "buy" the call to someone's handphone.

Really? But I don't mind to use skype☆

I used Skype while I was in Beijing. I was calling friends and family in Canada. It was soo cheap and the signal is quite good. No problems communicating at all.

However if you just want to text chat with someone, you should use a better instant messenger client such as MSN or Yahoo Messenger. I had ICQ, AOL, Yahoo, and MSN but I find MSN is becoming more popular amongst the younger generation...porbably because it comes with Windows.

Oh, really? I didn't know that. Thank you for teaching me. But my computer is getting heavy because of many files... So I don't want to install others anymore.

I use Skype and I love it. My screen name is Rabenstrange. I will be using it to communicate with my family while I am in Japan.

Skype phone calls to any number in the U.S. are free until the end of the year.

So can I call to every Amrican people for nothing? Other countries are not ok? I didn't know that!

I thought that using Skype to call US and Canada is free only if you are calling from within Canada/US. I'm not 100% sure but that's how I interpret the skype website. It's free till the end of the year.

Oh, really? That's great! But maybe I don't use it.

10 days till you're leaving? Starting to get excited? :-)

I wanna go study in a foreign country too! :-D
Have fun!

After 8 days! But I don't feel yet...
If you go abroad, please come to JP☆

Hello, nice to meet u, Mizoguchi san!
You made the mask!? It's great!!! But little bit scary for me...

Hi Erika!

Long time no see! It's been hectic down here, but how have you been?

I think buying that book is a great idea - that way you'll learn more about your own culture and you get to share it as well! :) I wonder if there's a comprehensive one about my culture.. I think it's a bit too massive to fit into a book. lol.

I've heard a lot about Skype but have not been able to use it.. it's good you found someone to converse with you!

p.s: Your laptop's really pretty!!

Hi, long time no see you!
I'm gonna leave JP after 4 days!
If you wanna use skype, please try it. It's not so complicated so you can use easily.

Skype looks very good. Now I'm going to introduce it in my company.

Yeah, my dad is also using skype as a communication tool in his company. I think this is very useful to use at companies.
